So for this blog entry we had to find an artist from the Midwest Photographer's Project that inspired us in some way. I choose Jane Fulton Alt who series of work really interested me. Her images seemed to chronicle the different things that our eyes may be often drawn to or fixed on in certain situations. I'm sure we all have been in class and zoned out staring at someone's backpack or been at the grocery store and became fixed upon a random pack of gum while waiting in line, well the photos I posted are of things that I will find myself focusing on in my home.

I love that I can tell what the images are of even though they seem to be framed because of it's close up focus. My favorite is the second image because it takes a little more time to figure out what the image is really of. Good job.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite of these pictures is the second one, after staring at it for a while I still can't quite tell what it is. I think the composition of the photo is pretty interesting, but I think if you cropped out some of the white area on the bottom I'd be less distracted by that
ReplyDeleteI really like how none of the photos show a "complete" object; they are all just parts of an object. This way of shooting creates more of a mystery within the photo itself, than if the whole object was shown. All of your photos seem to be well composed and thought out. The only concern I have is that on your second photo, the bottom seems to be a little washed out and bright. I believe that if this section of the photo had been slightly darker, more attention would be brought to the object itself.
ReplyDeleteThis series is quite interesting! I like the somewhat domestic portrayal in all of them, and also the abstract affect you've achieved by only shooting a portion of the object itself. The last one is my favorite, as different parts of the photo give of different motifs. I think the angles you chose to shoot from are also quite interesting. The lighting is relatively good; maybe a tad bit overexposed in the second, and of all the technical elements seem to be done quite well within this collection. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI like that you found inspiration in another photographer but didn't completely duplicate her work... You followed the assignment well in that you used it as a starting point to inspire some shooting of your own. The focus is a little off in the first and last image, and - though I like the idea of the images - I think they could be composed a little more carefully. To be honest the second image is my favorite. Though it is a little bright/ washed out the composition in that image is the most interesting of the group...
